Get to know me..

Hello, friends! My name is John Lashbrook and I’m the CEO of Hope School Mental Health. I’m a lifelong advocate for mental health care and a champion of all those who struggle with mental health challenges. If you’re lost and in need of help, if you’re on a search for spiritual solutions, or if you just need someone to talk to – you’ve come to the right place. We invite you to join us on this journey toward health and walk with us, together, into the light of a new day.

My Story

Born in Toronto Canada in 1944, I moved to the United States as a child but returned to Canada in 1950. In 1955 my family moved to Barbados where my father was the president of a college. I finished grade school and started high school. In 1960 we moved to Wilmore Kentucky where my father died suddenly. I graduated from high school and attended Asbury College from 1961-1965 where I majored in psychology and graduated first in my class.
From 1965 through 1968 I lived in Brazil where I learned to speak Portuguese. I majored in library science at the University of Kentucky and worked as a librarian at several schools in Ohio from 1975-1992 when mental illness forced me to retire. However during those 17 years I studied at The Ohio State University and earned a PhD in educational communications in 1983. From 2012-2013 I studied business and education at UK in Lexington Kentucky.

While my early and mid-life were marked by addiction struggles and spiritual battles with substance abuse, I have since made a full and strong recovery. I’ve been completely free of drugs and alcohol since December 2010. As a traveler, a seeker and a lifelong learner, I’ve acquired a rich history of lessons and wisdom – wisdom that I hope to share with you. Money can’t buy the education I’ve received through conquering adversity, hardship and spiritual struggle. But it can be shared through genuine connection, and through commitment to spiritual solutions.

Addiction therapy and recovery resources are crucial for many people struggling with concurrent mental health issues – which is why we offer everything from full-fledged life coaching programs to simple daily practices of mindfulness and meditation.

Since moving to California in March of 2020, I’ve made it my life’s work to start a meaningful non-profit business devoted to providing important resources and indispensable recovery tools for those in need.

My Values & Beliefs

You are worthy.

Everyone is worthy and deserving of a life that makes them happy and fulfilled. No matter how much you’ve struggled or how hopeless you might feel – there is always hope. There is always a way to reach your goals. You are worthy – and you are not alone.

Faith is an option.

Connection with a higher power – even if that higher power is just a network of friends or counselors – can be an absolutely invaluable tool for recovery. Faith and a close relationship with God (whoever your God may be) can help save your life.

It’s never too late.

No matter where you are in life, it’s never too late to make a change. It’s never too late to get help. It’s never too late to reach out and grab the helping hand of a therapist, a friend, a neighbor or a chaplain. Don’t lose hope – lose your fear and step into the light with us

Our Approach

We use an integrative, holistic and faith-based approach to promote the healthiest, most spiritually fulfilling life possible for all those in need.
